Rob Schmitz is a dedicated piano technician and lifelong musician serving San Francisco and the East Bay. With a background as a music instructor in piano, guitar, and voice, Rob taught for over a decade at School of Rock in San Ramon and Walnut Creek, working with students of all ages and skill levels.

In addition to his musical career, Rob brings more than 10 years of restaurant and hospitality management experience. As a trained sommelier, he developed a refined attention to detail, disciplined listening skills, and a deep appreciation for nuance — qualities that translate naturally into the art and science of piano tuning.

Having worked around pianos throughout his career, Rob is now fully dedicated to piano service as his primary professional focus. He provides tuning and general maintenance for homes, studios, and performance spaces throughout San Francisco and the East Bay.

An eighth-generation Californian, Rob comes from a family with deep roots in the state. His great-uncle, Eugene Schmitz — known in his day as “Handsome Eugene” — was both the conductor of the San Francisco Symphony and Mayor of San Francisco at the turn of the 20th century, leading the city during the era of the 1906 earthquake and rebuilding.

Rob is known for his steady, musical ear and practical approach, making him a trusted generalist for residential and studio clients alike.
