Who services Disklavier
& player pianos?

A player or hybrid piano is a real acoustic instrument with a second, electronic instrument living inside it. The two halves age differently, and they're serviced differently.

The acoustic half (strings, hammers, action, pedals) needs exactly what every piano needs: regular tuning, cleaning and adjustment by a technician who knows the instrument. Every SF Piano Works technician handles that side, on the bench, in your home.

The system half is another story. Yamaha's Disklavier, AvantGrand, Silent and TransAcoustic systems (and their Bösendorfer equivalents) are factory technologies: sensors under the keys, solenoids on the action, calibrations that have to match the acoustic setup precisely. Work on these systems belongs with a factory-trained specialist, which is why most Bay Area technicians, ours included, don't open them up.

For Yamaha and Bösendorfer systems, the Bay Area's factory-level resource is Apollo Piano, the studio of our founder Vince: a Yamaha Artist Services technician, factory-trained by Yamaha, who has serviced these systems since they arrived on this coast.
